Track and Field wins three events on third night of Texas Relays

Aaliyah Foster and Solomon Washington sweep long jump events on Friday.
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas track and field program won four events on the third day of the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays Presented by Truist.
The Longhorns swept the long jump A events with two wind-aided jumps to earn the first two wins of the day. Freshman Aaliayh Foster won the women's jump with a mark of 6.75m (22-1.75) on her first jump. Junior Solomon Washington completed the sweep for Texas with his first-round jump of 8.14m (26-8.50). Washington was the lone competitor to break the eight-meter barrier.
The men's sprint medley relay of Nolton Shelvin, John Rutledge, Brian Herron and Yusuf Bizimana posted a winning time of 3:15.03 for the Longhorns 10th Texas Relays SMR win in school history. The Longhorns also took home the Relays win in 2022.
Freshman Akala Garret took home the final UT win, recording the winning-time of 56.19 in the women's 400-meter hurdles. Garrett's win is the first time in eight years the Longhorns took home first place in the event after Ariel Jones won in 2016. On the men's side, sophomore Chris Brinkley finished third with a time of 50.63, .02 seconds off his personal-best.
Also on the track, the men's 4x100-meter relay of Marcellus Moore, Shelvin, Almond Small and Rutledge advanced to Saturday's final with the fifth-fastest time in 39.98. The 4x400-meter relay of Kendrick Smallwood, Logan Popelka, Caleb Hulbin and Elijah Mosley also qualified for Saturday's final with the second-best time of 3:09.59.
Senior Emelia Chatfield also advanced to Saturday's final in the women's 100-meter hurdles with the third-fastest time of the day in 13.06w.
Freshman standout Nina Ndubuisi opened up her outdoor season in the discus, throwing for 51.02m (167-5). Her fifth-round throw moved her to No. 8 on the UT All-Time Performer list. Junior Chrystal Herpin finished 10th with her throw of 48.43m (158-10).
