No. 15 Baseball drops Astros Foundation College Classic finale

HOUSTON, Texas – No. 15 Texas Baseball dropped the finale of the Astros Foundation College Classic to No. 9 Vanderbilt, 14-11, on Sunday at Minute Maid Park.
The Longhorns (7-4) will return home to UFCU Disch-Falk Field to host Texas A&M on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Porter Brown went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI, while Jalin Flores was 3-for-5 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored. Kimble Schuessler and Jack O'Dowd both homered in the game as well.
Cody Howard started and pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on six hits and when he departed the game the Longhorns had an 11-5 lead.
Texas got off to a hot start, scoring three runs on three hits in the top of the first inning. Jared Thomas was hit by a pitch and sacrificed to second base to start the game before Flores drove in the first run with an RBI double to left-center field. Schuessler followed up with a two-run homer into the left field seats to make the score 3-0.
The Commodores quickly got two runs back with a two-run homer of their own in the bottom of the first.
O'Dowd launched the Longhorns' second homer of the day in the second inning to make the score 4-2.
The Longhorns put up a four spot in the third inning, including the team's third homer of the game. Brown hit a bomb for the second-straight day for the first run of the inning. After a single by Schuessler and walk by Max Belyeu, Will Gasparino drove them both in with a hustling double down the left field line. Gasparino scored the final run of the inning, racing home on a wild pitch to take an 8-2 lead.
Vanderbilt scratched out another run in the third with a single and a sacrifice fly.
Brown homered for the second-consecutive inning and hit the Longhorns' fourth homer of the game in the fourth, a two-run shot. Gasparino drove in another run in the frame as well with a sacrifice fly to give Texas an 11-3 lead.
The Commodores scored runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to erase the Longhorns' 11-3 lead and go in front 12-11. Vanderbilt added to its lead in the eighth and put the game away, 14-11.
