Men's Swimming's Carson Foster, Modglin advance to 200 IM final at U.S. Olympic Trials

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Former University of Texas star Carson Foster and rising sophomore Will Modglin both advanced to the final of the 200-meter individual medley on Thursday evening at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming inside Lucas Oil Stadium. Foster recorded the fourth-fastest time in Thursday's semifinal, while Modglin placed eighth to earn their spots in Friday's 200 IM final.

The top finisher in the individual swimming events at the U.S. Olympic Trials earns an automatic spot on the official Team USA roster, while the runner-up is considered a near lock to make the team as well.

In Thursday evening's semifinals, Foster finished fourth with a mark of 1:57.96, and Modglin was eighth in 1:58.44 to grab the last spot in Friday's final. Rising sophomore Rex Maurer placed 10th with a mark of 1:58.64, and rising sophomore Nate Germonprez finished 12th in a time of 1:58.97. Chase Kalisz recorded the fastest time during Thursday's semifinals with a mark of 1:56.83.

During Thursday morning's prelims, a total of four Longhorns advanced to the semifinals of the 200-meter individual medley. Foster posted the fastest time of the prelims with a mark of 1:58.38. Maurer finished in 10th (1:59.71), while Germonprez was 14th (2:00.21). Modglin placed 17th in a time of 2:00.37 but advanced to the semis when Trenton Julian, who finished 15th in the prelims, elected to scratch out of the semifinals.
