Former Longhorn Brendan McCourt finishes 10th in Sunday’s springboard final.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Former University of Texas star Grayson Campbell posted a sixth-place finish in the Men's Springboard final on Sunday afternoon at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Diving at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center. Former Longhorn Brendan McCourt placed 10th in Sunday's final.
The top two finishers in the men's and women's individual springboard events at the U.S. Olympic Trials earn automatic spots on the official Team USA roster.
Andrew Capobianco (971.80) and Carson Tyler (945.75) finished one-two in the Men's Springboard final. Campbell recorded a 12-dive cumulative score (that included Friday's semifinal round) of 802.20 to place sixth, and McCourt posted a score of 719.40 to finish in 10th place.
Campbell's final session was highlighted by a score of 73.50 on his fifth-round dive, a reverse 1 ½ somersault 3 ½ twist free (5337D), and a score of 71.40 on his sixth and final dive, a forward 2 ½ somersault 2 twist pike (5154B). McCourt's final session was highlighted by a score of 73.50 on his fifth-round dive, a reverse 3 ½ somersault tuck (307C).
Campbell entered Sunday's final in sixth place at 403.05 after Friday's semifinals. Capobianco held the lead after the semifinals at 507.25, and McCourt was in 11th place at 359.25.
