Texas to begin season in mid-August, participate in UT’s first SEC conference game on Sept. 19
AUSTIN, Texas – With a sense of expectation for the latest campaign soaring as high as the sky above Mike A. Myers Stadium, The University of Texas women's soccer program has released its 2024 regular season.
The 18-match regular season schedule begins on Thursday, Aug. 15, when Texas and former Big 12 conference opponent Houston square off on the pitch at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. Three days later, the Longhorns play host to Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday, Aug. 18.
A brief trip up I-35 to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex await Texas when the Longhorns play at SMU on Thursday, Aug. 22. Five consecutive home matches follow with Iowa (Sunday, Aug. 25), Central Michigan (Sunday, Sept. 1), San Diego State (Thursday, Sept. 5), Long Beach State (Sunday, Sept. 8) and Houston Christian (Thursday, Sept. 12) all set to travel to Austin before UT opens conference play.
Looking to leave a mark in its first season within a new conference, the reigning Big 12 Conference champions will open SEC play on Thursday, Sept. 19, when the Longhorns host Alabama. The contest will mark the first-ever SEC conference game for any UT athletic program following the athletic department's shift from the Big 12 to the SEC that will take effect in six days on Monday, July 1, 2024.
A trip to Mississippi to play Mississippi State (Sunday, Sept. 22) and Ole Miss (Thursday, Sept. 26) precedes a matchup against in-state foe Texas A&M in Austin on Sunday, Sept. 29. The conference game between the Longhorns and Aggies will mark the second-ever SEC contest between the two athletic departments as the university's volleyball programs will meet in College Station, Texas on Friday, Sept. 27, 2024.
An alternating road-and-home four-game tilt await Texas throughout the month of October with a trip to Gainesville, Fla., to play Florida on Friday, Oct. 4 coming before the Longhorns host archrival Oklahoma on Thursday, Oct. 10. A trip to Baton Rouge, La., to face off against LSU occurs three days later on Sunday, Oct. 13.
Back-to-back games in Austin against Arkansas (Friday, Oct. 18) and Missouri (Thursday, Oct. 24) close out the 12-game regular season home slate for Texas, before the Longhorns conclude the 2024 regular season in Athens, Ga., against the 2023 SEC Tournament champions, Georgia Bulldogs, on Sunday, Oct. 27.
Times and television broadcast information for all Texas women's soccer matches will be released at a later date.
The 2024 Texas Longhorn women's soccer program will be led into the new chapter of UT's athletic history with two returning United Soccer Coaches All-American — Lexi Missimo and Trinity Byars — as well as a fully-intact Starting XI from the 2023 season. EmJ Cox, who was the 2022 Big 12 Defensive Player of the year before missing all of the 2023 season, is also set to return to head coach Angela Kelly, who is set to lead the Longhorns for her 13 season once the ball is kicked to open the 2024 season.
