Men's Swimming's Foster places fourth in 200 IM at Paris Olympics

Corbeau helps Team Netherlands advance to Saturday’s mixed 4x100 medley relay final.
PARIS, France — Former University of Texas star Carson Foster recorded a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter individual medley final on Friday evening at the Paris Olympic Games inside Paris La Defense Arena. In addition, former Longhorn Caspar Corbeau helped Team Netherlands qualify for the final of the mixed 4x100-meter medley relay.
During Friday night's 200-meter individual medley final, Foster posted a time of 1:56.10 to finish in fourth place. France's Leon Marchand, who trains with Texas head coach Bob Bowman, earned his fourth individual gold medal of the Paris Games with an Olympic record time of 1:54.06. Duncan Scott of Great Britain claimed silver with a mark of 1:55.31, and China's Shun Wang took bronze with a time of 1:56.00, just 0.10 seconds ahead of Foster.
The University of Texas has registered a total of eight medals (one gold, four silver, three bronze) from its Men's and Women's Swimming teams through the first seven days of competition at the Paris Games. Rising junior Hubert Kos of Hungary claimed the gold medal in the 200 back, while rising sophomore Erin Gemmell anchored Team USA's 4x200 free relay to silver on Thursday. Corbeau (Netherlands) earned bronze in the 200 breast on Wednesday, and the trio of rising senior Luke Hobson and former Longhorns Carson Foster and Drew Kibler won silver for Team USA in the 4x200 free relay on Tuesday. Hobson also claimed bronze in the 200 free on Monday, and Foster won bronze in the 400 IM on Sunday.
In Friday evening's 100-meter butterfly semifinals, Kos placed 16th in a time of 52.22. Kos transferred to Texas earlier this spring.
During Friday morning's prelims, Kos advanced to the 100 fly semifinals as he posted the 14th-fastest time of the heats with a mark of 1:58.63. Corbeau swam the second (breaststroke) leg for Team Netherlands in the mixed 4x100 medley relay heats and led his quartet to the fourth-fastest time of the prelims with a mark of 3:43.60. Corbeau posted a split of 59.28 during his breaststroke leg of the heats.
