Track and Field's Davis-Woodhall wins gold in long jump at Paris Olympics

Tara Davis-Woodhall claims first Olympic medal.
PARIS, France – Texas graduate Tara Davis-Woodhall won the Paris Olympics gold medal in the long jump in her second appearance at the Olympic Games on Thursday afternoon.
Davis-Woodhall of the United States won the gold medal with her fourth-round jump of 7.10m. She was the lone competitor to jump further than seven meters and did so twice (7.05 and 7.10). This marks the second games for Davis-Woodhall and joins Canadian Richard Duncan as the only two Longhorns to be two-time long jump Olympians.
Davis-Woodhall previously finished sixth overall in the Tokyo Olympics.
Texas junior Ackelia Smith became a two-time Olympic finalist after finishing eighth overall in the long jump with her mark of 6.66m from the opening round. Smith of Jamaica previously finished seventh in the triple jump to make her debut at the Olympics.
Rhasidat Adeleke of Ireland advanced to Friday's 400-meter final with her time of 49.95. The time ranked as the sixth-fastest in the semis. Adeleke also became the first Irish woman to ever reach an Olympics sprints final.
