No. 8 Volleyball sweeps LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. – No. 8 Texas Volleyball swept LSU, 25-20, 25-20, 25-15, to start undefeated in SEC play on Sunday in front of an LSU record crowd of 3,885 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
The Longhorns (7-3, 2-0) opened SEC play with a pair of road wins and will return home to host South Carolina on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Gregory Gym.
Madisen Skinner led the Longhorns with 10 kills and added three digs and one block. Reagan Rutherford and Jenna Wenaas each added seven kills apiece.
Ayden Ames added six kills and two blocks, while Marianna Singletary finished with five kills and three blocks.
Devin Kahahawai had an impact in several ways, with team-highs of four blocks and three service aces.
Emma Halter led the team with eight digs and added two aces. Averi Carlson led the team with 17 assists, while Ella Swindle also had 16 assists.
The Longhorns and Tigers went back-and-forth early in the first set and the teams were tied 11 before Texas created some separation. Texas used an 8-3 run to grab a 19-14 lead and held off a late LSU run to win the set 25-20.
After a slow start to the second set, Kahahawai served an impressive 8-0 run to put the Longhorns up 12-3. From that point, the Longhorns cruised to a 25-20 win with a .382 hitting percentage in the set.
The third set started evenly matched, with Texas trailing 10-9 before using a 5-0 run to go up 14-10. From there, it was all Longhorns as they rolled to a 25-15 win to close out the sweep. Texas finished with a .312 hitting percentage in the set, while holding LSU to an .081 clip.
