Trio from No. 1 Softball named to USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 53 Watchlist

Atwood, Kavan, Scott acknowledged by USA Softball in Wednesday’s preseason watchlist
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – On Wednesday morning, USA Softball announced Reese Atwood, Teagan Kavan and Mia Scott among the organization's Top 53 Watchlist for the 2025 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.
Atwood, who was one of the top three finalists for the award last season, set five single-season program records last season, including home runs (23), runs batted in (90) and total bases (163). Wednesday's recognition marks the third consecutive season Scott has been selected to the organization's watchlist after slashing .404/.482/.702 in 188 official at bats throughout 64 games in 2024. In her first season of collegiate softball, Kavan broke onto the scene with a 20-3 record with 135 strikeouts and a 2.20 earned run average (ERA) en route to being named the Big 12's Freshman of the Year.
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) leads all conferences with 23 student-athletes, while the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Big 12 Conference and Big Ten Conference with nine student-athletes each. The Mid-American Conference (MAC), Patriot League and Summit League have one student-athlete each.
The Top 25 Finalists for the 2025 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award will be announced on April 30, before being trimmed to 10 finalists on May 14 with the three finalists being announced five days later on May 19. The 2025 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be announced prior to the NCAA Women's College World Series (WCWS).
The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award is voted on by previous award winners, coaching representatives from nine Division I conferences in the 10 USA Softball Regions as well as members of the national and local media, who consistently cover Division I softball across the country.
