Track and Field wins nine events at MLK Jr. Invitational

Sam Hurley moves to No. 2 on the UT all-time performer list in pole vault.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Texas track and field program won nine events on the final day of the Dr. MLK Jr., Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Sam Hurley moved to No. 2 on the UT All-Time Performer list finishing fifth in pole vault with a personal best clearance of 5.52m (18-1.25). Jacob Davis still holds the UT program record with his mark of 5.85m (19-2.25) set in 1999.
Logan Popelka moved up on yet another UT All-Time Top Performer list for UT after winning the 400-meter with a time of 45.97. His time moved him to No. 4 on the list and is now the No. 4 performer on both the 200m and the 400m, both happening this weekend. Chris Brinkley Jr., was seventh with a time of 47.30.
Kendrick Smallwood matched his personal best when he won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.69. Kody Blackwood finished third with a time of 7.90.
On the women's side, Akala Garrett took home first with a time of 52.35 in her first career 400m. Ramiah Elliott was the runner-up with a time of 53.42.
Damon Frabotta made his Texas debut and finished sixth in the 300-meter with a time of 34.07 and Xavier Butler was sixth in the 60-meter dash in 6.79. Kenondra Davis won the women's 60m with a personal best time of 7.28.
Elijah Mosley later finished fifth in the men's 800-meter with his time of 1:50.08.
Texas finished the track events winning both 4x400-meter relays. Brinkley, Popelka, John Rutledge and Blackwood posted a time of 3:08.13. Lauren Lewis, Elliott, Davis and Garrett finished in 3:33.94.
The Longhorns swept the shot put after both Nina Ndubuisi and Michael Pinones picked up their second win of the season. Ndubuisi threw for 17.18m (56-4.50) and Pinones recorded a new personal best with a heave of 18.80m (61-8.25).
Kelsey Daniel later won the men's triple jump with a mark of 15.68m (51-5.50).
