Women’s Basketball ranked No. 4 in Associated Press preseason poll

Texas picked in the top-five of the AP preseason poll for third time in last four seasons.
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas women's basketball has been picked No. 4 in the AP preseason top 25 poll announced on Tuesday.
The AP poll enters its 50th year this season and the Longhorns have the third most appearances among women's basketball programs with 642. The Longhorns have been ranked No. 1, 49 times since the poll began in 1976.
Texas started the season ranked No. 4 in the preseason AP poll in the 2024-25 season and remained in the top-10 for the entirety of the season and in the top-five in 17 of 21 weeks. The Longhorns reached the No. 1 spot for two weeks, which was the first time in 21 years the Longhorns were ranked No. 1 in the AP poll.
The Longhorns are coming off a season in which they won 35 game to set a program record for wins in the NCAA Era. The team advanced to the Final Four for the first time in 22 years and earned a SEC regular season championship in their first season in the conference. Texas went 15-1 in the SEC last season and has posted a record of 68-9 overall in their last two seasons.
Madison Booker was named the SEC Player of the Year in 2025 and on Monday was selected the preseason SEC Player of the Year for the 2025-26 season by the media. Booker is a two-time First Team All-American entering her junior season at Texas. Rori Harmon is a three-time All-America honorable mention selection and returns for her final season. Harmon ranks second all-time in career assists at Texas and enters the season 46 assists from breaking that record. Jordan Lee, a 2025 selection to the SEC All-Freshman team returns for the Longhorns.
