No. 2 Volleyball defeats No. 17 Tennessee, 3-2, for its ninth ranked win

The Longhorns remain undefeated in the season, extending their streak to 13 games.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 2 Texas Volleyball defeated No. 17 Tennessee, 3-2 (25-22, 19-25, 25-17, 23-25, 15-7) for its ninth ranked win of the season. It's the first time since 2009 Texas has gone unbeaten in nine-straight ranked matches in the regular season.
Torrey Stafford led the team in kills, setting a new career high at 30. Ella Swindle registered her fourth double-double of the season with a career-high 48 assists, along with 12 digs. Freshman Cari Spears notched her first career double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs. Heading into tonight's match, the Volunteers led the NCAA in hitting at .334, but the Longhorns held them to their lowest attack percentage in SEC play at .262.
SET 1: In the opening set of the match, the two teams exchanged the lead four times. The Longhorns closed out the set with a 5-0 run, while limiting the Volunteers' offense to a .273 hitting percentage. Swindle registered 11 assists along with four digs. Stafford led the team with nine kills and a hitting percentage of .529.
SET 2: Tennessee led the entirety of the second set to win 25-19. This ended the Longhorns' 24 straight set wins. The last time Texas dropped a set was Sept. 10 against Louisville.
SET 3: Texas expanded its lead with a 6-1 scoring run to finish the set 25-17. The Longhorns were highlighted by Stafford and Abby Vander Wal, who combined for nine kills. Swindle ended the set with 10 assists.
SET 4: In the closest set of the match, the Volunteers took the set 25-23. Texas was highlighted by Emma Halter's six digs and Swindle's 11 assists. Stafford and Spears combined for 11 kills.
SET 5: Texas won the match 15-7, with a team hitting percentage of .538, while holding the Volunteers to a -0.59. The Longhorns totaled six blocks, from Stafford and Ayden Ames having two each. Wednesday night's win handed Tennessee its first loss in conference play.
The Longhorns will travel to Tuscaloosa to face off against Alabama on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
