Sophomore set to compete in Spain from Nov. 24 – Dec. 3
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas sophomore Amalia Villarreal has been called up to the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team for training camp and a pair of matches in Spain from Nov. 24 – Dec. 3.
While overseas, Villarreal and the USA will face the England U-20 WNT on Nov. 29 and finish against the China PR U-20 WNT on Dec. 2. Both contests will be played at Pinatar Arena in San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain.
The U-20 USWNT is preparing for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, which will take place in Poland from Sept. 5-27. The USA is one of 12 nations to have already qualified for the tournament, doing so at the 2025 Concacaf Women's U-20 Championship last June.
During her prestigious young career, Villarreal has earned multiple invites to participate with the U.S. Youth National Team system. The Lansing, Mich. native has competed in red, white and blue ranging from a U-11 Futsal squad all the way up through U-20 teams.
Earlier this year, Villarreal was selected for a pair of U-19 camps, after guiding the squad to a bronze medal at the 2023 Pan-American Games. Among her half a dozen call-ups at the U-17 level, Villarreal tied a USWNT record — regardless of age — with five goals in a match vs. Puerto Rico at Concaf Women's U-17 Championship.
The two-time All-SEC Second Team honoree mounted another award-worthy campaign on The Forty Acres this fall.
Villarreal registered eight goals and two assists, notching 18 points in 17 starts. The sophomore totaled 1,514 minutes, coming off the pitch for just 16 minutes.
In SEC action, Villarreal scored the second-most goals (five) at her position, trailing only SEC Midfielder of the Year Ally Perry (six).
Across the regular season, Villarreal ranked third in the league in shots (62) and shots on goal (29), while tying for seventh in goals.
