The RHP was ranked as the No. 1 pitcher in the class of 2026.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Softball head coach Mike White announced the addition of RHP Sophia Bordi to the program on Friday. Bordi was ranked as the nation's No. 1 pitcher in the 2026 recruiting class and was a two-time Gatorade New Jersey Player of the Year.
"We're excited to add Sophia (Bordi) to our program as she is an exceptional athlete as both a pitcher and hitter," said White. "She won national championships at the club level for the Orange County Batbusters. Her drive and competitiveness will add to our already deep pitching staff."
Bordi, a native of Merchantville, N.J., reclassified and early enrolled at Oklahoma prior to the 2025 season but redshirted. Due to midyear transfer rules, Bordi will not be eligible to play during the 2026 season for Texas but will be eligible in 2027.
"We are excited to add depth and a competitive mind to our bullpen," said Texas assistant and pitching coach Pattie Ruth Taylor. "She will bring a lot of power from the right side, and we are excited to see her career unfold as a Longhorn."
In addition to being ranked as the nation's top pitcher in the 2026 class and being named a two-time Gatorade New Jersey Player of the Year, Bordi led her team to two state championships while earning the tournament's MVP honors. As a sophomore in 2023, Bordi hurled four perfect games in the postseason and only allowed three runs while punching out 195 batters across 94 career postseason innings. In the 2023 New Jersey State Championship, Bordi tossed a 16-strikeout perfect game, retiring all 21 batters she faced to lead the Garnets to a 3-0 victory. In the 2022 state championship, Bordi threw a 20-strikeout no-hitter. In two state championships, she did not allow a hit over 14 innings while compiling 36 strikeouts. Bordi was a three-time first-team all-state honoree and three-time first-team all-conference selection at Haddon Heights High School. Bordi played travel ball with the OC Batbusters Stith and was named Co-MVP of the Alliance National Championship.
Bordi is the daughter of George and Danielle Bordi. Her mother, Danielle Strader-Bordi, was a 13-time NCAA All-American swimmer for the Longhorns and won the 1997 Big 12 Championship in the 100 fly as a senior. She has two brothers, John and George.
