Longhorns win third straight game over top-10 opponent, first team to do so since 2005.
AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas defense held LSU 29 points below their season scoring average, including outscoring the Tigers 21-9 in the fourth quarter, to propel themselves to a 65-58 victory in front of 10,542 fans at Moody Center on Sunday.
Madison Booker posted her sixth double-double of the season and eighth of her career with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Senior forward Taylor Jones became the 50th member of the Texas 1,000 Point Club, posting 12 points and eight rebounds against LSU. Rori Harmon added another double digit game with 10 points and five assists.
Texas shot 100 percent (21-of-21) from the free-throw line to add 21 points to the board. The Longhorns also held the Tigers to their second lowest scoring game this season, 29.4 points under their game average.
Harmon opened the game with back-to-back steals to allow Booker to put Texas on the board. Texas closed out the opening quarter with a layup from Jones to tie the game, 10-10. The Longhorns went on to grab 21 rebounds and five steals to finish the first half trailing, 28-19.
Texas came back strong in the second half with an 8-0 run to make it a one-point game. A layup from Kyla Oldacre closed the third quarter with the Longhorns down, 49-44.
For the first time since the first quarter, Texas took the lead with a layup from Bryanna Preston. Making their last six field goals, the Longhorns secured a 65-58 win over LSU.
Up next, the Longhorns travel to Athens, Ga. to face the University of Georgia on Monday, February 24 at 6:00 PM CT. The game will be televised on SEC Network.
