No. 1 Men’s Swim and Dive smashes American, school record in the 800 freestyle relay, sets new school record in 200 medley relay

The Longhorns are in the lead after the first day of the SEC Championships at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
ATHENS, Ga. – No. 1 Texas Men's Swim and Dive possesses the early lead at the SEC Championships Tuesday night after breaking the American and school record in the 800 freestyle relay and setting a new school record in the 200 medley relay.
Texas holds the lead at the SEC Championships after accumulating 176 total points through six events. UT is ahead of Georgia (2nd-158), Tennessee (3rd-153.5), Florida (4th-152), LSU (5th-132), Alabama (6th-118), Texas A&M (7th-111), South Carolina (8th-110), Kentucky (9th-102), Auburn (10th-63) and Missouri (11th-62.5).
The Longhorns began the night with a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay (Will Modglin, Nate Germonprez, Hubert Kós and Chris Guiliano), clocking in a school-record time of 1:20.75. Texas smashed the previous school record of 1:21.36, which was set at the 2022 NCAA Championships by Anthony Grimm, Caspar Corbeau, Alvin Jiang and Cameron Auchinachie.

On the diving side, freshman Luke Forester placed seventh in the 3-meter A Final with a score of 338.30. In the B Final, junior Nick Harris tallied a first-place finish and ninth overall with a score of 321.75. Texas freshman Jacob Jones also finished 13th overall and fifth in the B Final (346.70).
To culminate the night, the Horns' 800 free relay team of Luke Hobson, Rex Maurer, Chris Guiliano and Coby Carrozza set a new American and school record after finishing runner-up in 6:03.24. The previous American and school record (6:03.42) was set by Texas at the 2023 NCAA Championships by Hobson, Carrozza, Peter Larson and Carson Foster.
