Teagan Kavan selected as SEC Pitcher of the Week for the second time in her career.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second time in a four-week span, Texas sophomore right-handed pitcher Teagan Kavan was selected as the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon. Kavan was also named the league's pitcher of the week on Monday, Feb. 17.
The honor is the fourth career conference pitcher of the week honor for Kavan after picking up two in the Big 12 Conference throughout the 2024 season and being selected in the SEC twice this season.
In 16.1 innings pitched throughout three appearances, Kavan finished with a 3-0 record and a 0.43 earned run average (ERA) after pitching against Baylor, Kent State and Ohio State. She totaled 29 strikeouts, while issuing seven walks and surrendering just one earned run. Of her seven hits allowed, just one went for extra bases. She finished the week with a .123 opponent batting average.
Against Baylor to start her week, Kavan tossed her seventh career seven-inning complete game shutout after limiting the Bears to just an infield single in seven innings of work. She struck out 11 batters and issued just three walks. She returned to the circle on Sunday against Kent State and worked the game's first three innings, before the Longhorns ended the game in the fifth with a 15-1 score. Against the Golden Flash, she struck out seven batters, scattered two hits and issued one walk.
In the marquee matchup of the Ohio State Tournament against Ohio State on Monday, March 10, Kavan, again, struck out 11 batters in 6.1 innings of work, before exiting the circle after getting the first out of the top of the seventh.
Kavan doubled her career double-digit strikeout performances from two to four with this week's outings and also recorded three three-strikeout innings on the week. She had a streak of 11 consecutive innings with at least one strikeout and was credited with at least one strikeout in 15 of 16 full innings pitched.
