No. 1 Men’s Diving’s Welsh qualifies for NCAAs on platform to conclude Zone D Championships

Four Longhorns qualified for the NCAA Championships on March 26-29 in Federal Way, Wash.
IOWA CITY, Iowa – No. 1 Texas Diving's Jacob Welsh qualified for the NCAA Championships on the platform after placing eighth in the event Wednesday evening at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships at the CRWC.
Welsh totaled a final score of 706.00 to achieve qualification for the national meet on March 26-29 in Federal Way, Wash. The Atherton, Calif., product also qualified for the 1-meter (9th-663.45) on Monday and finished inside the top-12 in the 3-meter (10th-688.30) on Tuesday, holding the opportunity to enter that event at NCAAs. Freshman Jacob Jones finished ninth in the platform, just outside the top-eight qualification benchmark, after compiling a final score of 703.65, but can enter the event since he qualified for the 1-meter on Monday after placing fifth (695.65). Jones also recorded a top-12 finish in the 3-meter after placing 11th with 680.25 points on Tuesday.
In addition, freshman Pierce Brooke competed in the platform final and finished 17th with a final score of 596.50, respectively.
Overall, the Longhorns conclude the Zone D Diving Championships with four NCAA qualifiers in Nick Harris, Manuel Borowski, Jacob Jones and Jacob Welsh. Harris, a junior from Chester Springs, Pa., logged a third-place finish (758.40) in the 3-meter on Tuesday. He also qualified for the 1-meter at the national meet after notching a runner-up finish (743.40) on Monday. Borowski, a senior from Southlake, Texas, qualified for the 3-meter after amassing 701.95 total points to finish ninth on Tuesday.
