No. 2/2 Softball’s Kavan earns second career NFCA National Pitcher of the Week honor

Teagan Kavan strikes outs 19, allows just two earned runs in 15.0 innings of work across three appearances
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Teagan Kavan's week began with an 11-strikeout performance at Ohio State and ended with a four-inning scoreless relief appearance at Florida with a second win sandwiched in between and as a result was selected as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association National Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
Kavan (2025) joins Christa Williams (1998), Cat Osterman (2002, 2003) and Hailey Dolcini (2021) as the only Longhorn pitchers in program history to earn the NFCA's top weekly pitching honor twice in a single season. Kavan was also selected on Feb. 18 following her 13.0 innings of work against then-No. 11/8 Texas Tech that included an 18-strikeout performance in the Longhorns' nine-inning win. No Texas student-athlete has earned the honor three different times in a single season.
Due to the NFCA's timeline (Monday to Sunday) for its weekly awards, Texas' games against Dayton, Ohio State and Saturday's doubleheader at Florida were counted towards Kavan's statistics for her nomination.
For the week, Kavan tossed 15.0 innings, struck out 19 and issued just five walks. She surrendered just two extra bases and allowed just two earned runs and held one of the nation's top offenses (Florida) to just one earned run and one extra base hit in 8.2 innings in the circle.
On Monday, Mar. 10, Kavan recorded her fourth career double-digit strikeout outing as she fanned 11 Buckeye batters in 6.1 innings in the circle. She scattered four hits, issued three walks and allowed just one earned run before giving way to Citlaly Gutierrez with one out in the top of the seventh to close out Texas' 4-2 win.
Kavan returned to the circle on Saturday, Mar. 15, when she got the start in Texas' first-ever SEC series opener and struck out five Florida Gators in 4.2 innings. None of the six hits allowed went for extra bases and, again, allowed just one earned run to one of the nation's top offenses. Hours later, she was summoned out of the bullpen to relieve Mac Morgan in game two of Saturday's doubleheader against the Gators. She worked four more innings and did not allow an earned run, while striking out three and not issuing a walk en route to helping the Longhorns claim their first-ever SEC series.
