Women’s Swim and Dive in fourth after opening night of NCAA Championships

The Longhorns opened the national meet with a pair of top-six relay performances.
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Texas Women's Swimming and Diving is in fourth place at the NCAA Championships following Wednesday's opening night of the four-day meet at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center. The Longhorns tallied two top-six relay results on the day, finishing fourth in the 800 freestyle relay and sixth in the 200 medley relay.
Texas commenced the national meet tying for sixth in the 200 medley relay to receive First-Team All-American status. UT's Emma Sticklen, Piper Enge, Abby Arens and Grace Cooper combined for a time of 1:34.00, earning a spot on the podium.
In the 800 free relay, Erin Gemmell, Lillie Nesty, Campbell Chase and Ava Longi threw down a time of 6:53.49 to finish fourth and land on All-America First Team.
UT's 55 total points after the first night puts them in fourth. Stanford and Virginia share the lead with 74 points apiece followed by third-place Florida with 60.
The Longhorns continue competition at the NCAA Championships on Thursday, March 20, at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center. Prelims for the 500-yard free, 200-yard IM, 50-yard free and 200-yard free relay start at Noon CT/10 a.m. PT. Prelims for the 1-meter are slated for 2:15 p.m. CT/12:15 p.m. PT. Finals for all five events will begin at 8 p.m. CT/6 p.m. PT and can be streamed on ESPN+.
