FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Texas Women's Swim and Dive remains within striking distance at third-place following the third day of the four-day NCAA Championships at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center Friday. Freshman Alejandra Estudillo Torres won the national title in the 3-meter while senior Emma Sticklen dismantled her own school record in the 100 butterfly to highlight a jampacked day.
The Longhorns, who have accumulated 288 points, trail second-place Stanford (292) but just four points heading into the final day. Virginia remains in the lead with 383 total points. Texas has also separated itself from fourth-place Indiana, who has recorded 209 points through 14 events.
Competing in her first national meet, Estudillo Torres brought home her first NCAA title after totaling a season-best 389.40 points to edge out Miami's Chiara Pellacani (387.60). The freshman from Nuevo Leon, Mexico, clinched her second All-America honor after finishing sixth in the 1-meter on Thursday night. Sophomore Bayleigh Cranford also advanced to the A final, placing seventh (337.65) to solidify her first career All-America selection. Senior Hailey Hernandez ended her career on the Forty Acres with a 10th-place finish in the 3-meter after competing in the consolation final earlier in the evening.
The night was kicked off in historic fashion as Sticklen lowered her own school record in the 100 fly, touching the wall in 49.27 to claim third and earn her fourth All-American honor of the national meet. Sticklen's previous record of 49.40 was set at the SEC Championships on Feb. 20 in Athens, Ga. Fifth-year Abby Arens was also named an All-American after securing a sixth-place finish in a personal-best time of 50.90.
In the 400 IM, sophomore Campbell Stoll reeled in Honorable Mention All-America praise after placing 10th in 4:04.55.
Freshman Lillie Nesty turned in a personal-best time of 1:42.86 to finish 10th in the 200 free and clinch Honorable Mention All-American honors.
Sophomore Erin Gemmell became an All-American for the second time this week after recording a seventh-place finish in the 200 free in 1:43.52.
Freshman Piper Enge received All-American status for the second time this week after finishing fifth in the 100 breast, clocking in at 58.19.
The night culminated with a fifth-place finish and All-America honors in the 400 medley relay by Olivia Bray, Enge, Sticklen and Nesty. The quartet threw down a time of 3:26.11 – the fastest time by Texas in the event this season – and the fifth-fastest time in program history.
