Men’s Swim and Dive extends lead fueled by pair of wins by Kós, Maurer on day two

Hubert Kós destroyed his own 200 IM program record to win the event, while Rex Maurer claimed the national crown in the 500 freestyle.
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Texas Men's Swimming and Diving built upon its lead following the second day of the 2025 NCAA Championships at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center on Thursday. The Longhorns have totaled 190 points to remain in first, followed by second-place California (159.5) and third-place Indiana (146).
American record holder and Texas sophomore Rex Maurer commenced Thursday's finals session with an NCAA title in the 500 freestyle, touching the wall in 4:05.35, claiming his first career individual NCAA title and Texas' first individual crown of the national meet. The Horns went 1-2 in the event as senior Luke Hobson finished runner-up in a personal-best time of 4:06.34. Seniors David Johnston (10th-4:09.48) and Coby Carrozza (14th-4:12.71) also advanced to the 500 free B final and finished 10th and 14th overall, respectively, to add points to UT's tally.
Junior Hubert Kós earned his first career individual NCAA Championship in the 200 IM in electric fashion after throwing down a school-record time of 1:37.91. It was the second time he broke the school record on Thursday after he recorded a then-program-record time of 1:38.89 during prelims. Sophomore Camden Taylor amassed Honorable Mention All-America recognition after finishing 14th in a personal-best 1:41.30.
Senior Chris Guiliano swam a season-best time of 18.48 to place sixth in the 50 free.
Texas' 200 free relay team of Guiliano, Kós, Will Modglin and Hobson combined for a sixth-place finish in 1:14.66 to end the night. It also doubled as the fastest 200 free relay time by UT this season.
Junior Nick Harris solidified Honorable Mention All-America honors after placing 10th overall in the event with a final score of 368.60 total points. Harris is set to compete in Friday's 3-meter competition.
Friday's prelims for the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back are slated for Noon CT. Prelims for the 3-meter are set for 2 p.m. with consolation finals beginning at 7:15. Finals for all events, in addition to the 400 medley relay, will start at 8 p.m.
