The NCAA Elite Student-Athlete Symposium took place from Feb. 28-March 2 in Indianapolis.
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas Football linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. and defensive back Malik Muhammad attended the NCAA Elite Student-Athlete Symposium for Football at the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis on Feb. 28-March 2, where student-athletes were invited to the symposium after the NCAA staff consults with coaches, athletics administrators, professional sports officials, and other experts closely linked to draft prospect lists.
Hill and Muhammad had the opportunity to watch the NFL Combine, giving them a glimpse into the future environment they may encounter. During the program, they engaged with a comprehensive range of speakers with NFL experience on and off the field and other industry professionals. Sessions covered financial literacy, personal branding and media training, film review best practices, client-agent relationships, NFL scouting, and mock interviews, ensuring a thorough preparation for their future careers.
"The Elite Student-Athlete Symposium for Football equips top college athletes with the knowledge and resources needed to navigate the transition from the NCAA to the professional level," said Ashley Jocelyn, assistant director of leadership development at the NCAA. "With insights from NFL veterans, coaches, and industry experts, this three-day program ensures that athletes are not only prepared for the demands of professional football but also for long-term success beyond the field.
Notable speakers included Ray Farmer, former NFL general manager and current senior personnel executive for the Los Angeles Rams; Eric Stokes, former Nebraska standout with 20-plus years of experience in NFL front offices; Arthur Hightower, senior director of player engagement for the Los Angeles Chargers; and Roman Oben, NFL vice president of football development.
Hosted by the NCAA leadership development and football enforcement staff nearly every year since 2017, the symposium aims to prepare high-profile football student-athletes with eligibility remaining for the transition from college football to the NFL. Among the former participants who have experienced success in the NFL are Ja'Marr Chase, Micah Parsons, and C.J. Stroud.
Last year, Texas Football offensive lineman Cole Hutson was in attendance for the NCAA's Elite Student-Athlete Symposium. Former Longhorns who also attended the symposium include Malik Jefferson in 2017 and Collin Johnson in 2018. Jefferson was selected in the third round as the 78th overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, and Johnson was drafted in the fifth round as the 165th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and is currently a wide receiver for the Chicago Bears.
