No. 13 Beach Volleyball splits opening day of TCU Invitational

The Longhorns defeat their first ranked opponent in No. 12 FAU but fell to No. 7 FSU.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 13 Texas Beach Volleyball split a pair of top 12 duals on the first day of competition at the TCU Invitational.
The Longhorns opened the day dropping its first match of the season to No. 7 Florida State, 5-0, before defeating No. 12 FAU, 3-2.
FSU secured its first two points against Texas defeating the No. 4 pair (Ava Patton/Kylie Wickley), 21-12, 21-12 and the No. 5 pair (Macey Butler/Noa Sonneville), 22-20, 19-21, 16-14. After securing the first sets, the No. 1 (Chloe Charles/Eva Liisa Kuivonen) and No. 3 (Karin Zolnercikova/Maddison Parmelly) pairs fell just short against FSU, 21-18, 18-21, 12-15 and 21-19, 14-21, 13-15. FSU secured the win over Texas defeating the No. 2 pair of Emma Grace Robertson and Katie Hashman, 21-17, 17-21, 12-15.
The Longhorns came back for the second dual of the day against the Owls with the No. 4 pair of Butler and Sonneville winning 21-19, 21-18. FAU took a 2-1 lead after defeating the No. 5 (Patton/Wickley) and No. 1 (Charles/Kuivonen) pairs, 16-21, 21-13, 8-15 and 16-21, 14-21. The No. 3 pair of Zolnercikova and Parmelly tied up the match with a 21-18, 21-12 win. Robertson and Hashman (No. 2) solidified the win for the Longhorns with a three set win over FAU, 21-22, 17-21, 15-12.
Texas will return tomorrow for day two of the TCU Invitational, facing Boise State at 10 a.m. and No. 4 TCU at 4 p.m.
