Texas Record Holders:
Could Texas be the new hurdle U? The Longhorns are showing out in the short and long-distance hurdles with Kendrick Smallwood breaking his own program record just three weeks after setting it in Gainesville, Fla., at the Tom Jones Invitational. He now holds the UT record with a time of 13.26 and still leads the NCAA with his wind-aided time of 13.07. On the women's side, Akala Garrett broke Raasin Mcintosh's 21-year record with a time of 53.73 in the 400-meter hurdles. She's the third-fastest runner in the NCAA this season and ranks ninth all-time in NCAA history. And on the other side of the country, Eva Jess broke her 10K program record by four seconds with a personal best time of 32:50.28 in California at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Texas climbing:
The Longhorns are climbing the NCAA-descending order list week after week. Kody Blackwood sits second in the NCAA with his time of 48.79 in the 400-meter hurdles. That's the third-fastest time ever in Texas history. Along with her record in the 400mH, Garrett also boasts the third-fastest 100m hurdles time in the country. Did we not say Texas could be the new Hurdle U. Rounding out top-10 spots on the list are Nina Ndubuisi and Chrystal Herpin in shot put. Ndubuisi climbed to No. 2 on the Texas list with her season best throw of 18.21m last weekend and sits fifth on the NCAA list. Herpin ranks ninth in the country at 17.83m.
Closing down outdoor season:
Next on the list, Texas travels to Houston for the third and final time for the Cameron Burrell Invite on May 2. Longhorn will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., on May 9 for the Arkansas Twilight for the final regular season meet before the SEC Outdoor Championships in Lexington, Ky., from May 15-17.
