Texas’ three NFCA All-Americans ties a program record, most since 2013.
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The University of Texas softball program was honored with three All-American selections – Reese Atwood, Teagan Kavan and Mia Scott – by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as well as the organization's top catcher award, the NFCA announced on Wednesday afternoon.
In addition to the three All-American honors, Atwood was named the 2025 Diamond Sports/NFCA Catcher of the Year, becoming the first student-athlete in program history to win the award.
The three NFCA All-Americans for the Texas Longhorns are the most by a single Longhorn squad since 2013 (Taylor Hoagland, Blaire Luna and Taylor Thom) and is just the fourth time (1998, 1999, 2013, 2025) in program history three different student-athletes were selected to a NFCA All-American team.
Over the last week, Atwood (First Team), Kavan (Second Team) and Scott (Second Team) have all each been chosen as an All-American by Softball America and D1Softball, making each Texas softball student-athlete a consensus All-American.
Atwood, who was a unanimous first team selection in 2024, is the first Texas Longhorn softball student-athlete since Janae Jefferson (2018-22) to earn multiple NFCA All-American honors during their time on the Forty Acres. She's also just the seventh student-athlete in program history with multiple NFCA All-American honors joining Jefferson (2018-22), Lindsey Stephens (2014, 2016), Blaire Luna (2010-11, 2013) Cat Osterman (2002-03, 05-56), Nikki Cockrell (1998-99) and Christa Williams (1998-99).
Kavan is the first Texas pitcher to earn a NFCA All-American honor since the 2022 campaign, when Hailey Dolcini earned third team honors. Kavan's second team honor is the highest by a Longhorn pitcher since Blaire Luna was selected to the first team in 2013. Overall, Kavan is just the sixth Texas pitcher to ever earn NFCA All-American honors joining Dolcini (2022), Miranda Elish (2019), Luna (2010-11, 13), Osterman (2002-03, 05-06) and Williams (1998-99).
In her final season wearing the Texas Burnt Orange and White, Scott finally earned NFCA All-American status that had eluded her throughout her previous three seasons as a Longhorn. Entering Thursday's Women's College World Series game, Scott is one of just two student-athletes to start 249-or-more career games, record 300-or-more career hits and have 700-or-more career at bats. She's already the program's career runs scored and doubles leader and has an opportunity to finish as just the second student-athlete in program history to hit .400-or-better (.398) for career, joining Jefferson (.424).
