Longhorns, SEC preseason favorites, finish one game back of number one seed, half game back of two seed
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Texas softball program will enter its first-ever Southeastern Conference Softball Tournament as the third seed in a 15-team, single-elimination tournament that begins at 1 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. CT on Tuesday, May 6 in Athens, Ga.
As a result of earning one of the tournament's top four seeds, Texas (45-9, 16-8) received a double bye into the tournament's quarterfinals and will begin play at 5 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. CT in Game 10. The third-seeded Longhorns will play the winner of sixth-seeded Florida (43-13, 14-10) and the winner of an opening-round matchup between 11th-seeded Ole Miss (35-16, 11-13) and 14th-seeded Missouri (25-30, 6-18).
Texas opened SEC play this season by taking 2 of 3 games at then-No. 3 Florida (7-2, 13-7, 1-3) in Gainesville, Fla., in mid-March, before taking all three games of a three-game series at Missouri (8-0, 4-3, 3-1) in early April. The Longhorns did not play the Ole Miss Rebels did the 2025 regular season.
If chalk prevails through the tournament's first three rounds, the second-seeded Texas A&M Aggies (43-9, 16-7) on Friday, May 9 on ESPN2. UT and TAMU did not meet during the regular season and haven't played each other since last season's three-game NCAA Austin Super Regional that the Longhorns won after taking Game 2 and Game 3.
The championship game of the five-round tournament is slated for 5 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 10 on ESPN.
All first-, second- and third-round games can be seen on SEC Network, while semifinals matchups will be shown on ESPN2 and the championship contest on ESPN.
