For the second-straight season, a Longhorn was tabbed Team Member of the Year in Pierre-Yves Bailly, while Lucas Brown and Sebastian Gorzny both earned second-team accolades.
Austin – Three members of Texas Men's Tennis were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Team with senior Pierre-Yves Bailly earning the top honor of Team Member of the Year, the organization announced Wednesday. Meanwhile, junior Sebastian Gorzny and sophomore Lucas Brown both earned second-team accolades, making Texas the only school in the nation with three selections.
It marks the second-straight year a Longhorn has been Team Member of the Year after Eliot Spizzirri received the honor last year when he and Micah Braswell were both chosen to the first team.
This is the third year there has been an All-America team unique to tennis after it was previously part of an at-large category made up of multiple sports. The Longhorns have had at least two selections all three years with Spizzirri (first team) and Cleeve Harper (second team) on it two seasons ago.
The overall team is made up of seven selections each on the first and second teams, and five on the third team.
Bailly just completed an economics degree in UT's prestigious McCombs School of Business, registering a 3.91 GPA. This season, he was also the Southeastern Conference Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and on the court was a First Team All-SEC selection. He compiled a 25-7 overall singles record this year, including 22-3 in dual match play and 7-2 in the conference. He also posted a 22-12 doubles record, going 17-10 in dual matches and 8-4 in the conference.
An ITA All-American in doubles this season, Brown has garnered a 3.95 GPA in aerospace engineering. He partnered with Timo Legout to finish ranked No. 6 in the nation in doubles. They won four of their last five decisions with two of those wins in the top-10 and finished with a 21-13 overall record and 13-12 mark in dual matches. In the fall, they reached the NCAA Doubles semifinals and won the championship at the ITA Texas Regionals. Overall, Brown was 26-16 in doubles with a 16-12 dual match record. In singles, he went 25-6 overall, 15-4 in dual matches and 9-2 in the SEC, playing mostly at No. 6.
Gorzny has notched a 3.93 GPA in physical culture and sports. In his first year as a Longhorn, Gorzny had an outstanding fall, reaching as high as No. 2 in the singles rankings and finishing as the runner-up at the ITA All-American Championships after having to withdraw from the title match due to injury. He then reached the NCAA Singles round of 32. Another First Team All-SEC selection, Gorzny was tabbed to the SEC Championship All-Tournament Team. He finished 22-10 overall in singles and was 16-9 in dual matches, mostly at No. 2, as he worked through an injury much of the spring season. He was also 19-12 in doubles and 17-10 in dual matches.
All three players helped the Longhorns finish the season with their third-straight Final Four appearance and fifth in the last six years. They were also the SEC regular season and tournament champions in their debut year in the conference. Texas closed with a 29-5 record with the 29 victories matching the 2019 team for the most in a season dating back to 1975 when teams began playing shorter schedules.
