Volleyball's Stafford named to AVCA Player of the Year preseason watch list

Torrey Stafford named to preseason list for second-straight season.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Volleyball's Torrey Stafford was named to the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Watch List for Division I women's volleyball Player of the Year Award, presented by Nike Volleyball on Thursday.
Stafford joins 29 other players on the preseason watch list from a total of 20 different schools. The preseason watch list was compiled by the AVCA Division I Women's Volleyball Awards Committee. Additional phases of the watch list will be released in October for the midseason watch list, in November for the list of semifinalists and the finalists announced in December. The Player of the Year will be announced in Kansas City at the AVCA Awards Banquet on Dec. 19.
Stafford was named a 2024 AVCA First Team All-American, All-ACC First Team honoree and was selected to her first SEC Preseason Team in early July. Stafford led Pitt during the 2024 season with a .358 hitting percentage, was an AVCA National Player of the Year semifinalist and was second on the team in points (457.5) and kills (400).
Stafford is one of 10 student-athletes from the SEC to make the list of 30 and makes her second-straight appearance on the preseason watch list. The AVCA announced its inaugural list before the 2024 season, which included Reagan Rutherford and Madisen Skinner for the Longhorns.
