Arch Manning passes for 170 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's opener.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Texas football team cut the Ohio State lead to 14-7 on a 32-yard touchdown, but could not get any closer in a 14-7 defeat on the road to open the 2025 season.

Arch Manning completed 17 passes for 170 yards and a touchdown in the start for the Longhorns. Texas outgained Ohio State on the ground 166-77 led by Quintrevion Wisner with 80 yards on 16 carries. CJ Baxter added 40 yards on 10 carries. Through the air Jack Endres led the Longhorns with 50 yards receiving.

Trailing 7-0 at halftime, the Texas defense forced the Buckeyes into a three and out to start the third period. On the Texas offensive possession Manning drove the Longhorns 76 yards on 13 plays, but was stopped on fourth and goal.

The Longhorns fell behind 14-0 on a Buckeye touchdown with 13:08 to play in the fourth quarter.

Needing a score with 4:10 to play in the final quarter Texas started its drive on the Ohio State 32-yard line. Manning started the drive with a 28-yard strike to Ryan Wingo to get the ball to the Ohio State 32-yard line. The key play of the drive came on 3^rd and 10 as Manning completed a 32-yard touchdown pass to Parker Livingstone to make the score 14-7 with 3:28 to play.

Texas forced the Buckeyes into a three and out got the ball back on their 15-yard line with 2:26 to play. Manning completed a 30-yard pass to Jack Endries to the Texas 42-yard line, but the drive stalled with a turnover on downs at the 50-yard line with 1:27 to play as Ohio State secured the victory.

Up next the Longhorns return to Austin to host San Jose State at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 6 with a kickoff at 11:00 a.m. CT.
