Cross Country sweeps Stormy Seas Opener

Aidan Torres and Brighton Mooney lead Longhorns as top-finishers
GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Texas cross country programs swept the Stormy Seas Opener 5Ks with the women receiving a perfect score of 15 points while the men finished with 20 to open the season.
The women were led by senior Brighton Mooney who finished second overall with a time of 17:41.39. Sophomore Kaylin Rendon eclipsed her personal best by 37 seconds, completing the race in 18:03.00 to finish third. Freshmen Lilly Fawcett and Mia Perez finished fourth and fifth overall, crossing the finish line in 18:24.18 and 18:31.58, respectively.
Senior Natasja Beijen was sixth with a time of 18:36.04, followed by sophomores Isabel Conde de Frankenberg and Gia Kurp. Conde de Frankenberg made her Texas debut after transferring from Oregon and posted a time of 18:48.88. Kurp beat her personal best by 23 seconds, crossing the line in 18:53.30.
In their Longhorn debuts, freshmen Aidan Torres and Joaquin De La Cruz finished second and third overall with times of 15:12.42 and 15:12.74. Junior Jack Boyd finished with a time of 15:12.51 followed by Zain Hamdani who set a personal best with a time of 15:12.81. Junior Hudson Bennett completed the pack of Longhorns who all finished between .4 seconds of each other with a time of 15:12.81.
The Longhorns return to action Friday, September 12 in San Antonio, Texas at the UIW Invitational.
