No. 5 Volleyball rolls past No. 8 Wisconsin at Opening Spike Classic

MADISON, Wisc. – No. 5 Texas Volleyball went undefeated at the 2025 Opening Spike Classic, sweeping No. 8 Wisconsin (29-27, 25-20, 25-14) at the Kohl Center in front of 11, 678 fans.
Sunday's win marks four-straight wins against the Badgers that includes a 3-1 win at the 2023 NCAA National Semifinal. The win makes it two-straight wins against top 12 ranked opponents over the weekend.
Freshman Cari Spears led the Longhorns with 11 kills and hit .476 on the night. Both Emma Halter and Ramsey Gary totaled double-digit kills with Halter leading the team with 14 and Gary added 10.
First Set: Texas boasted two, five-point scoring runs in the first set with its largest lead coming at 16-9. Despite the Badgers coming back late in the set, Vander Wal's impressive five kills were too much to overcome. The Longhorns totaled three team blocks led by Nya Bunton's two block assists. She ended the match with seven.
Second Set: Spears made her presence known in the second earning six kills to Texas with a .667 hitting percentage. The Longhorns ended the set on a 4-0 run, including Rella Binney's first ace of the season.
Third Set: It was all Texas in the third set after taking its biggest lead at 20-9. Both Torrey Stafford and Ayden Ames recorded four kills each, leading the Horns an impressive 25-14 set win. The Badgers recorded a match-low 11 kills.
The Longhorns return to the state of Texas and travel to Houston to face Rice on Wednesday, September 3 at 6 pm CT.
