Longhorns enter preseason ranked in the top 5 for the 19th time in 21 seasons
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas volleyball will begin the 2025 season as the No. 5 ranked team in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Preseason Coaches' Poll, the organization announced Wednesday.
The Longhorns have been ranked in both the top five in 19 of the past 21 seasons and the top 10 in 20 of the last 21 preseason rankings.
Texas, picked to finish second in the SEC Preseason Coaches' Poll, leads the SEC as the highest-ranked university ahead of conference favorite Kentucky at No. 7. The Longhorns are one of five SEC schools ranked in the top 25 – No. 9 Texas A&M, No. 16 Florida and No. 17 Missouri.
The Longhorns will open the season against No. 12 Creighton and No. 8 Wisconsin on the road at the Opening Spike Classic in Madison, Wisc., at the Kohl Center. The season features 11 preseason top 25 teams, including No. 6 Stanford in the home opener at Moody Center on Sept. 6.
