No. 2 Volleyball sweeps No. 9 Arizona State for fifth ranked win

Longhorns open season 6-0 for the first time since 2022.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 2 Texas Volleyball knocked off its fifth ranked opponent this season, sweeping No. 9 Arizona State (25-18, 30-28, 25-15) in its first match at Gregory Gym. The Longhorns were led by freshman Cari Spears, who registered a career-high 18 kills with a .382 attack percentage, and Ella Swindle, who posted her first double-double of the season with 29 assists and 12 digs.
The Longhorns improved to 6-0 on the season and have recorded five ranked wins – No. 12 Creighton, No. 8 Wisconsin, No. 6 Stanford, No. 4 Louisville and now No. 9 Arizona State. Prior to this weekend's matches, UT was the only team with four ranked wins in five matches.
Set 1: Texas won its first set back in Gregory Gym behind a .323 attack percentage and 16 kills. The Longhorns used a five-point run to build a 15-10 advantage. Its largest lead was 17-11 after an Ayden Ames and Abby Vander Wal block. Texas also capitalized on two aces (Emma Halter, Spears) to take the first set.
Set 2: The second set was the highest-scoring set for the Horns this season, winning 30-28. The set featured 13 ties and four lead changes. Texas staved off two set points before taking the set off back-to-back kills from freshmen Taylor Harvey and Spears. Spears was unstoppable in the second, recording half of her 18 kills in the set while adding four blocks.
Set 3: The Longhorns earned their third sweep of the season as they raced out to a 17-10 lead. Torrey Stafford recorded five of her 12 kills in the third to help Texas finish with 54 overall.
