No. 2 Volleyball's Spears named AVCA Player of the Week

Cari Spears joins 10 previous Longhorns on the list of AVCA weekly honorees.
AUSTIN, Texas – Freshman Cari Spears was named the AVCA Player of the Week on Tuesday to go along with her second consecutive SEC Player of the Week honor.
The Frisco, Texas native is taking the NCAA by storm with her offensive performances. Spears recorded 28 kills in two matches and averaged a .600 attack percentage against No. 9 TCU and No. 21 Baylor. She led the team after matching her career high with 18 kills over the Horned Frogs and added four digs and three blocks.
The feat earned Spears her third-straight SEC Freshman of the Week honor and second consecutive SEC Player of the Week award.
Spears joins Torrey Stafford as the two Longhorns to earn the award this season and nine others in program history. The duo now join Demetria Sance (1998), Jill Gremmel (1999), Michelle Moriaty (2006), Destine Hooker (2007), Ashley Engle (2009), Jullian Faucette (2010), Haley Eckerman (2012, 2013) Logan Eggleston (2021, 2022) and Skylar Fields (2021) as Longhorns to be tabbed with the honor. It's also the 14th time a Longhorn has won the award with Eggleston earning it three times in her career and Eckerman twice.
