No. 8 Volleyball sweeps Mississippi State in return to Gregory Gym

Longhorns hit a season-high .438 to remain unbeaten at home and improve to 2-1 in SEC play.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 8 Texas Volleyball returned to Gregory Gym with a strong offensive performance, sweeping Mississippi State, 25-16, 25-21, 25-19, on Friday night in the Longhorns' first SEC home match of the season.
Texas (6-5, 2-1 SEC) hit a season-high .438 for the match, including .531 in the third set, to remain unbeaten at home this season at 3-0. Mississippi State (11-2, 1-1 SEC) suffered its first road loss of the season.
Torrey Stafford led all players with 20 kills on a season-best .419 hitting percentage and added 13 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Henley Anderson added 12 kills while hitting a career-best .400, while Cari Spears had nine kills and an ace.
Taylor Harvey matched her season best with six kills on nine swings, hitting a career-best .667 for the match. Rella Binney finished with 39 assists for her fifth consecutive 30-assist performance.
Texas took control late in the opening set, using a 6-1 run to turn an 8-7 advantage into a 14-8 lead. Stafford recorded three kills during the stretch, and the Longhorns maintained their advantage throughout the remainder of the set. Texas closed the frame on a Spears kill to take a 1-0 lead.
The Longhorns carried their momentum into the second set, building a 13-8 advantage behind three kills from Stafford. Mississippi State pulled within three at 21-18, but Texas answered with four of the final seven points. Anderson finished the set with a kill to give the Longhorns a 2-0 lead.
Mississippi State opened the third set with its first lead of the match, but Texas quickly responded. The Longhorns held a 16-14 advantage midway through the set before extending the lead to 19-16. Harvey and Stafford helped Texas close out the sweep, with Stafford recording three kills over the final eight points. Texas hit .531 in the final frame and finished the match with a 25-19 victory.
Friday marked Texas' return to Gregory Gym for the first time since the home opener on Sept. 2. The 30-day span between regular-season home matches was the longest between home matches at Gregory Gym during the Jerritt Elliott era. The Longhorns' previous home match was Sept. 13 at Moody Center.
Texas remains at home Sunday, Oct. 4, hosting Alabama at noon CT at Gregory Gym. The match will stream live on SEC Network+.
