Longhorns conclude regular season slate against Auburn on Nov. 1

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Texas dropped its final road contest of the regular season, falling to No. 1/1 Vanderbilt, 5-0, at Vanderbilt Soccer Complex on Friday night.

Despite the result, the Longhorns (8-4-4, 3-3-3 SEC) clinched their spot in the SEC Soccer Tournament in Pensacola, Fla.

Meanwhile, the Commodores (15-0-1, 8-0-1 SEC) secured their first SEC regular season title since 2018.

Melania Fullerton kicked off the scoring with her fourth tally of the year in the 14^th minute. Off of an attempted clearance, Fullerton corralled the loose ball and ripped a low liner into the bottom left corner of the cage.

In the closing moments of the first half, Lydia Ungashick doubled the advantage by heading home a cross from Courtney Jones. Ungashick's goal marked her second of the season.

After the break, Mia Hebert padded Vanderbilt's cushion, delivering a highlight-reel strike. Hebert wrestled herself free before tucking a left-footed shot underneath the bar to push the Commodores ahead, 3-0.

Off of a corner kick in the 72^nd minute, Margo Matula found the back of the net to extend the lead to 4-0. With the ball ricocheting around following the service, Matula buried the opportunity from inside the six-yard box.

Four minutes later, Sydney Watts punctuated the offensive outburst for Vanderbilt, mounting her team-leading 15^th goal of the campaign. Watts drove a left-footed rocket into the bottom left corner to punctuate the evening.

In the defeat, SEC saves leader Bayliss Flynn notched a season-best nine stops.
