No. 3 Softball hosts Southeastern Louisiana for midweek matchup

Texas returns to the friendly confines of McCombs Field to host Southeastern Louisiana at 6 p.m. CT Wednesday, Feb. 25. The game will stream on SEC Network+.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 3 Texas (14-1) returns to the friendly confines of McCombs Field for its first midweek action of the year as it hosts Southeastern Louisiana (13-3) at 6 p.m. CT Wednesday, Feb. 25. The game will be available on SEC Network+ with Andrew Haynes on the call.
- Texas returns to McCombs Field after a 5-0 weekend at the DeMarini Invitational on Feb. 20-22. Texas opened the weekend with a 12-2 victory over No. 16 Arizona and a 4-3 win against host Stanford on Feb. 20. Texas then followed with a 10-0 (5 innings) win against Boise State and a 10-2 win at Santa Clara on Feb. 21. The Longhorns concluded the weekend with a 12-2 (five innings) win vs. No. 16 Arizona on Feb. 22. Texas took home three top-20 victories from the DeMarini Invitational.
- Junior RHP Teagan Kavan (6-0) was named D1Softball's National Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 24 following her performance at the DeMarini Invitational. Kavan was previously named D1Softball's National Pitcher of the Week on April 8, 2025, and March 25, 2025. Kavan is the second Texas player to earn a national award this season, joining Reese At-wood who was tabbed D1Softball's National Player of the Week on Feb. 10.
- Kavan was instrumental in Texas' 5- 0 weekend at the DeMarini Invitational on Feb. 20-22 at Stanford after she went 3-0 in the circle vs. ranked competition, stretching the Longhorns' win streak to 12-consecutive games. Kavan twice beat No. 16 Arizona and defeated No. 10 Stanford on their home field. Across 16 innings against ranked foes, Kavan posted a 1.31 ERA with 19 strikeouts while checking opponents to just three earned runs on 10 hits. The West Des Moines, Iowa, product only allowed three extra-base hits with all three being doubles. Kavan held opponents to a .179 batting average.
- Texas cruised to its first win of the DeMarini Invitational on Feb. 20 behind Kavan's arm, taking down No. 16 Arizona, 12-2. Kavan went the distance and tossed a three-hit, 10-strikeout gem in the win against the Wildcats, marking her second-consecutive double-digit strikeout outing. Kavan did not allow an earned run and did not give up an extra-base hit across seven innings vs. Arizona. Kavan issued four walks and had four 1-2-3 frames. Kavan caught fire when she retired 10-consecutive batters beginning in the third inning and going until the bottom of the seventh.
- Kavan earned her second win of the day in Texas' 4-3 win vs. No. 10 Stanford on Feb. 20. Kavan got the rock in the third and twirled the remaining five innings. Kavan gave up one earned run on three hits, struck out four and worked around a walk. Kavan obtained her third victory of the weekend in Texas' 12-2 (five innings) win against No. 16 Arizona on Feb. 22. Kavan got the start and limited Arizona to two runs on four hits with five strikeouts in four innings of work. Kavan stranded runners at third in back-to-back innings in the second and third. Kavan tossed three scoreless frames before Arizona broke through with two runs in the top of the fourth.
- Defensively, Kavan was rock solid and recorded three assists on three total chances for a perfect fielding percentage. On the season, Kavan is 6-0 and leads the team in wins (6), appearances (8), games started (6), complete games (3), shutouts (1), innings pitched (36.0) and strikeouts (48).
- In Texas' home opener at the Bevo Classic on Feb. 12, C Reese Atwood became the program's career home run leader after demolishing her 59th career home run vs. Abilene Christian. Atwood currently has 62 career home runs heading into Wednesday night. Her 62 career home runs lead all active NCAA players.
- The Longhorns currently hold a 12-game winning streak dating back to Feb. 7. It's the seventh-longest winning streak in the country.
- After going 5-0 during the Bevo Classic on Feb. 12-15, Texas has won eight-consecutive games at McCombs Field. That streak will be put to the test against Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday night.
- Texas is fresh off of the program's first Women's College World Series (WCWS) National Championship in 2025. The Longhorns finished the historic season with a program-record 56 victories and a 56-12 overall record.
- The Longhorns' 10-2 postseason run in 2025 culminated with a 2-1 Championship Series (third appearance in four years) win over Texas Tech. In the winner-takes-all game three, the Longhorns clinched a 10-4 victory.
- Head coach Mike White is in his eighth season at helm of the Texas program and holds a 330-94-2 (.777) overall record during his time on the Forty Acres. In 17 combined seasons between Oregon (nine seasons) and Texas (eight seasons), White sports a 766-205-4 (.796) overall record.
- So far this season, the Longhorns are 6-1 against ranked opponents.
- Following a midweek tussle with Southeastern Louisiana, Texas will host the Longhorn Invitational on Feb. 27-March 1 at McCombs Field. Texas will face Houston at 6 p.m. Friday, St. Bonaventure at 2:30 p.m. and Prairie View A&M at 5 p.m. Saturday and Incarnate Word at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
