No. 3 Softball downs Southeastern Louisiana in midweek matchup

The Longhorns have won 13-consecutive games.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 3 Texas Softball (15-1) extended its win streak to 13-consecutive games after downing Southeastern Louisiana (13-4), 7-2, Wednesday night at McCombs Field.
The Longhorns move to 15-1 overall heading into their final weekend of non-conference play. Texas improves to 6-0 at home this season.
Junior RHP Teagan Kavan (7-0), who was named D1Softball's National Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 24, claimed her fourth win over the last six days. Kavan went the distance in her seventh start of the season, totaling eight punchouts and limiting Southeastern Louisiana to two runs on five hits. It was Kavan's fourth complete game of the season. Kavan twirled two scoreless innings before the Lions added two runs in the top of the third. The West Des Moines, Iowa, native kept Southeastern Louisiana off the board in the game's final four innings. Kavan has not allowed more than two runs in each of her last five appearances.
The Longhorns outhit Southeastern Louisiana at a 7-5 clip. Texas has scored in the first inning in 11 of its last 12 games. Three different Longhorns drove in two runs apiece, led by senior catcher Reese Atwood, who hit a two-run home run in the first. Atwood also drew two walks at the plate. It was Atwood's eighth home run of the season and the 63rd of her career. Atwood has knocked in a run in each of her last four games and in 13 of 16 games this season.
Senior Kaiah Altmeyer continued her hot streak at the plate after going 1-for-3 with a two-RBI single. Altmeyer has recorded three-consecutive games with multiple RBI. Freshman designated player MaTaia Lawson went 1-for-3 with a two-RBI double as well. Senior second baseman Leighann Goode finished 1-for-3 with an RBI single. Junior center fielder Kayden Henry tallied her fourth-straight multi-hit outing after going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Freshman third baseman Jaycie Nichols also had a base knock.
Atwood's two-run blast in the bottom half of the first put the Longhorns in front early, 2-0.
Southeastern Louisiana responded in the third with a one-out, two-RBI double to right center to even the score at 2-2.
Texas regained a 4-2 lead in the fourth off the bat of Lawson, who pummeled a one out, two-RBI double to the center field wall to score Katie Stewart and Taylor Anderson.
The Longhorns tacked on three more runs in the fifth, beginning with Goode's RBI single down the right field line, scoring Henry from second base for a 5-2 advantage. With the bases loaded and one out, Altmeyer muscled a two-RBI single back up the middle to score Atwood and Viviana Martinez for a 7-2 lead.
