The Longhorns did not drop a set in the win against the Islanders at the Texas Tennis Center on Saturday.
Austin – No. 7 Texas Men's Tennis swept Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 7-0, at the Texas Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Longhorns did not drop a set throughout to overall match in winning doubles matches at Nos. 2 and 3, and following with singles victories by freshman Abel Forger at No. 2, senior No. 10 Sebastian Gorzny at No. 1, freshman Mariano Dedura-Palomero at No. 5 for the clinch, sophomore Evan Burnett at No. 6, freshman Lucas Marionneau at No. 4, and senior Jonah Braswell at No. 3.
In doubles, Dedura-Palomero paired with sophomore Oliver Ojakaar for a 6-0 sweep over Etienne Marty and Omar Suarez at No. 2. Braswell and Burnett then clinched the point with a 6-3 win over Ethan Dasset and Josef Zapletal at No. 3. Gorny and Marionneau were then down a break to Mikel Garmendia and Matthieu Coignet at No. 1, trailing 4-2 when play stopped.
The Longhorns then allowed only 19 combined games to the Islanders in singles, starting with Forger, who swept his match over Suarez, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2. Gorzny then quickly exited the court with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Nicholas Niox Chateau at No. 1, and Dedura-Palomero was just behind him with a 6-1, 6-1 victor over Garmendia at No. 5 to clinch.
The remaining matches were played out with Evan Burnett claiming a 6-2, 6-0 win over Filip Vacula at No. 6, while Marionneau added a 6-3, 6-2 win against Dasset at No. 4. Jonah Braswell then closed it out with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Marty at No. 3.
Texas will next head to the ITA National Indoor Championships that take place February 13-17 in split sites in Dallas and Waco. The Longhorns will find out their opponent, location and timing later in the week.
