Blackwood headlines group of five Longhorns on All-SEC Outdoor Track & Field teams

Texas student-athletes recognized following medal-winning performances at SEC Championships.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 18/18 Texas Track & Field earned five All-SEC honors following standout performances at the SEC Outdoor Championships, highlighted by First Team recognition for Kody Blackwood after his conference title in the men's 400-meter hurdles, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Kelsey Daniel, Giavonna Meeks and Kendrick Smallwood earned Second Team All-SEC recognition, while Amelliah Birdow collected Third Team honors.
The All-SEC first team consists of conference event champions, while the second and third teams are made up of the runner-up and third-place finishers, respectively.
Blackwood captured the SEC title in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best 48.26, tying the SEC Championship meet record and setting a Hutsell-Rosen Track facility record in Auburn, Ala. The performance moved him to No. 2 on the Texas all-time performer list with the third-fastest time in school history.
Daniel earned silver in the men's triple jump with a personal-best mark of 16.64m (54-7.25) on his final attempt of the competition, climbing to No. 4 on the Texas all-time performer list. His mark ranks as the eighth-best performance in program history.
Meeks secured silver in the women's hammer throw with a Texas program-record mark of 68.23m (223-10). All six of her throws during the competition ranked among the top eight performances in school history, and she now owns the top 19 marks in Texas history.
Smallwood broke his own Texas school record in the men's 110-meter hurdles, finishing second in 13.12. The performance strengthened his hold on the top 15 times in program history.
Birdow rounded out the Texas honorees by earning Third Team All-SEC recognition after placing third in the women's 400-meter hurdles. Birdow clocked a personal-best 54.79 to move to No. 3 on the Texas all-time performer list with the ninth-fastest time in school history.
Texas will now focus on the NCAA West Preliminary Round, set for May 27-30 in Fayetteville, Ark., at John McDonnell Field.
