Longhorns blank Ole Miss, 2-0.

OXFORD, Miss. — Ashlyn Anderson and Ava McDonald both etched their names on the scoring sheet to propel Texas to a 2-0 win over Ole Miss at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The victory marked the Longhorns' first in Southeastern Conference action under head coach Margueritte Bates.

"Today was simply a grind," Bates said. "We had a really tough opening slate to SEC play with good opponents and travel. We found a way to win after enduring a poor performance in the first half. I was proud of how our group responded in the second half with better play and a better mentality."

Anderson vaulted Texas (6-2-3, 1-1-2 SEC) ahead of the Rebels (7-5, 0-4 SEC) just 70 seconds in, delivering her third goal in as many matches. After receiving a pass from Alicia Riggins, Anderson drove a right-footed shot from 20-yards away that caromed off the bottom of the crossbar to put the Longhorns in front, 1-0.

The sophomore's strike was Texas' quickest tally to start a contest since Haley Berg found the back of the net 25 ticks in against Rice on Aug. 18, 2017.

Sixty minutes later, McDonald added an insurance goal for the Longhorns. Vivian Geesbreght slipped a pass into the box and McDonald ripped a rocket past Ole Miss goalkeeper Taylor Prigge into the bottom right corner.

For the 5-foot-6 forward, it marked her 10^th point in the last seven tilts.

In net, senior Bayliss Flynn posted five saves to guide Texas to its sixth clean sheet of the season.

Defensively, the Longhorns drew the Rebels offside on four occasions. Across the last five matches, Texas has forced its opposition offside 25 times.

Up next, the Longhorns return home to host Oklahoma at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
