Tom Sutaris enters his second season as special assistant for the baseball team at The University of Texas.
Sutaris assists with day-to-day program operations and Texas Baseball Camp operations, along with managing and directing on-field camp activities. He also oversees video coordination.
Before becoming the special assistant, Sutaris worked at Longhorn baseball camps while serving as the on-field coordinator for the last three years.
Prior to his full-time employment at Texas, Sutaris worked as an education coordinator for Catapult Learning at Mendez Middle School from 2012-2014 and assistant education coordinator for Catapult Learning at Lanier HS from 2011-2012.
A native of Toms River, New Jersey, Sutaris moved to Austin in 2009 to take on the role of hitting coach at St. Edward’s University. Before coming to Texas, he coached high school baseball in his home state for 14 years (1994 & 1998-2009), winning four state championships at his high school alma mater, Toms River High School South.
Sutaris also taught middle school English from 1998-2009 and served as the hitting coach and intramural recreation coordinator for Northwood University from 1995-1997.
Sutaris was a three-sport athlete at Toms River HS South, earning All-State Baseball honors his senior year, before going on to play college ball at the University of Tennessee (1988-1989), Brookdale Community College (1989-1990) and Lynn University (1990-1993).
Sutaris then played professionally in the Frontier Baseball League between 1993-1996 for the Ohio Valley Redcoats, serving as the hitting coach in 1995 and earning two All-Star team appearances before focusing on his coaching career in 1997.
Tom and his wife, Susan, have two children: Mackenzie and Cody.
