Erik Posegay was named Associate Head Coach for The University of Texas Men's Swimming & Diving program, Director of Swimming & Diving and Head Men's Coach Bob Bowman announced Thursday. Posegay joined the Texas staff with almost 20 years of coaching experience, including four years working alongside Bowman at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club.
Posegay arrived on the Forty Acres after a two-year stint with USA Swimming, where he served as the National Junior Team Program Director beginning in April 2022 before being promoted to National Junior Team Director and National Coach in September 2023. As the program director, he led all aspects of the National Junior Team by developing and maintaining programs that served as the pathway from elite-level age-group swimmers towards the Olympic Games. Upon his promotion, he added coaching duties for national team camps at the Olympic Training Center as well as for national team athletes at Pro Swim Series events.
Posegay has coached numerous Olympians, U.S. National Team members, World Championships competitors and Paralympians during his coaching career. In February, he served as the head coach for USA Swimming at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships, guiding the United States to Team of the Meet honors after the U.S. claimed the most gold medals (8) and total medals (20).
His international coaching experience includes time as an assistant for the United States at the 2015 Open Water World Championships, the 2013 Duel in the Pool and 2010 Junior Pan Pacific Championships. He led the U.S. squad to team titles at all three events. Posegay also served as the head coach for North Macedonia at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and an assistant coach for France at the 2014 European Championships.
Prior to his time with USA Swimming, Posegay spent four seasons on the University of Wisconsin coaching staff as an assistant coach (2018-21) and associate head coach (2021-22). During his stint with the Badgers, he was tasked with leading the distance and individual medley groups and assisting with recruiting. From 2016-18, he was an assistant coach at Penn State University, working primarily with the distance, individual medley and stroke events.
Beginning in 2011, Posegay spent five years at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club (NBAC). He began his time at the NBAC as an assistant under Bowman before being promoted to head coach and CEO of the club in 2015, when Bowman departed to become the head coach at Arizona State.
Posegay served as the head coach at Parkland High School and Parkland Aquatic Club (Allentown, Pa.) for six years, guiding the Parkland girls' team to the Class 3A high school state championship in 2006. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Emmaus Aquatic Club and Emmaus High School (Emmaus, Pa.) from 2002-05.
A native of Allentown, Pa., Posegay graduated from Albright College (Reading, Pa.) in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science.
