Trevor Maida was named an Assistant Coach for The University of Texas Swimming and Diving program and joined the team in August of 2024. Maida comes to the Forty Acres with six years of full-time coaching experience.
Maida comes to Texas after serving as an assistant coach at the University of Louisville during the 2023-24 season. The Cardinals women's squad was the runner-up at the ACC Championship meet, scoring 1,145 points only behind Virginia, the current four-time NCAA Champions. The Louisville women later sent three athletes to the A-Final at the 2024 NCAA Championship meet in the 50-free, making school history as the first three to make the A-final. In addition, Louisville's men's team finished in 15th place at the 2024 NCAA Championships.
Before joining the Louisville program, Maida spent four years (2019-23) at the University of Wisconsin, where the Badgers returned to the upper tier of the Big Ten, placing fourth in the Big Ten three of Maida's last four years on the men's side while the women logged a top-20 finish at the NCAA Championship meet in each of his last two seasons. The Badgers' men's team finished in 23rd at the 2024 NCAA Championship meet and garnered 10 All-American honors, while the Wisconsin women finished 15th with 100 points – both marking the best finishes and highest point totals at the national meet since 2017. Maida guided Taiko Torepe-Ormsby to tie the New Zealand National Record and qualify for the world championships in the 50-free. He also helped coach the Badger swimmers to school records in the 100 back, 100 breast, 200 free relay and 200 medley relay.
Maida began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach at Indiana from 2018-19. The Hoosiers swept the men's and women's Big Ten titles for the first time in school history. While at Indiana, Maida assisted in recruiting efforts and served as the program's social media director.
During his undergraduate career, Maida swam for St. Bonaventure for one-and-a half years before moving into a coaching role as a student assistant coach. He earned his bachelor's degree in Sports Studies with a cognate in Exercise Science in 2018.
A native of Hauppauge, N.Y., Maida and his wife, Morgan, will reside in Austin.
