Ben Josephson joined the Texas Volleyball staff in 2025 as Associate Head Coach after more than 20 years of coaching experience at the collegiate and international levels in both men’s and women’s volleyball.
In his first season on the Forty Acres, Josephson helped guide Texas to a 26-4 record and an NCAA Regional Final appearance, the program’s 18th regional final in the last 20 seasons. The Longhorns finished among the nation’s most efficient offensive teams, ranking fourth nationally in hitting percentage (.315) and third in both kills (14.75) and assists (13.78) per set. Under Josephson’s offensive leadership, Texas produced three AVCA All-Americans in Torrey Stafford (First Team), Cari Spears (Third Team) and Emma Halter (Honorable Mention) while continuing the program’s tradition of competing among the nation’s elite.
Josephson arrived at Texas following two seasons as Associate Head Coach at the University of Kentucky, where he helped lead the Wildcats to one of the most successful stretches in program history. During his tenure in Lexington, Kentucky posted a 44-14 overall record, won back-to-back SEC Championships and advanced to consecutive NCAA Regional Finals. The Wildcats finished each season ranked among the nation’s top 10 teams in the final AVCA Poll, earning a No. 10 ranking in 2023 and a No. 8 ranking in 2024.
Four Kentucky players earned AVCA All-America honors during Josephson’s two seasons with the Wildcats, including future Longhorn Reagan Rutherford, who was recognized in 2023. In 2024, Kentucky outside hitter Brooklyn DeLeye was named one of four finalists for both the Honda Sport Award for volleyball and the AVCA National Player of the Year award.
Prior to his time at Kentucky, Josephson spent 16 seasons as head coach of Trinity Western University’s men’s volleyball program, building the Spartans into one of the most successful men’s programs in North America. During his tenure, Trinity Western captured five National Championships (2011, 2012, 2016, 2017 and 2019) and five Canada West Championships (2012, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020). The Spartans also advanced to nine consecutive conference tournament finals during Josephson’s tenure.
His success at the collegiate level was complemented by extensive experience with Volleyball Canada, where he served as head coach of the Canadian Men’s National Team from 2021-22 and helped guide Canada to qualification for the 2022 Volleyball Nations League. He previously served as an assistant coach with the Canadian Women’s National Team from 2019-20 and as head coach of Canada’s Youth National Team in 2015 and 2016.
A native of Strathmore, Alberta, Canada, Josephson began his collegiate career as a student-athlete at Trinity Western, becoming the program’s first All-Canadian selection in 2003 while also earning Canada West First Team All-Star honors. He earned a bachelor’s degree in human kinetics from Trinity Western and a certificate in biblical studies from Covenant Bible College in Strathmore. He and his wife, Jen, have three children: Cooper, Zeke and Gracie.
