DALLAS - University of Texas sophomore punt returner Nathan Vasher (Texarkana, Texas) was named the Big 12 Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday. It marked the second consecutive week that a Longhorns player earned the honor.
Vasher set a Big 12 and UT record with eight punt returns for a school-record 153 yards in Saturday's 44-14 victory against North Carolina. His 44-yard touchdown return in the fourth quarter marked the Longhorns' first TD return since Mike Adams' 54-yarder on Sept. 18, 1993, against Syracuse (a span of 99 games). Vasher also had a 59-yard return in the first quarter, which set up the Longhorns' second touchdown, and a 31-yarder that set up Dusty Mangum's 36-yard field goal in the second quarter.
The 5-foot-11, 180-pound safety is averaging 18.2 yard per return this season, which currently ranks second in the conference and eighth nationally.
The No. 5 Longhorns return to action on Saturday, Sept. 22, when they take on the Houston Cougars in an 8 p.m. contest (ESPN2) at Robertson Stadium.
