AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas hit .333 - its highest hitting percentage since Oct. 9 - as the No. 10 Longhorns volleyball team defeated No. 18 Kansas State, 3-0 (30-27, 30-25, 30-23), on Saturday afternoon in front of 1,883 fans at Gregory Gym.
Texas senior All-American Mira Topic (Kastela Kambelovac, Croatia) connected for her fifth double-double in as many matches with 19 kills and 15 digs. Freshman Michelle Moriarty (Houston, Texas) added her third double-double in a row with 49 assists and 11 digs. The victory snapped Texas (17-2, 9-2 Big 12) two-match skid, while Kansas State (13-7, 7-4 Big 12) dropped its record against ranked teams to 1-6 on the season.
Sophomore Dariam Acevedo (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) added 12 kills for the Horns. The Wildcats' Vali Hejjas had a team-high 17 kills as UT held KSU to a .193 hitting percentage. Angie Lastra had a KSU-high 14 digs in the losing effort.
Texas out-blocked K-State, 12.0 to 8.0, as senior Bethany Howden (Austin, Texas) had a team-high six (three solos, three block assists) and sophomore Brandy Magee (Mission Viejo, Calif.) had five block assists.
"This win was a great way to get back on the winning track," Texas head coach Jerritt Elliott said after the match. "I thought our blocking came together after all the work we've been doing in practice. Our hitting got back on track, too, and we had a great balance on the court. I was really happy with Lauren Galler's play off the bench."
Galler added five kills and a .400 attack percentage after entering in the second game.
Texas is now 4-2 against ranked teams this season.
UT returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 27, when the team travels to Norman, for a 7 p.m. match at Oklahoma in McCasland Field House.
