Career
- Aided Texas in claiming the 1982 and 1983 Southwest Conference (SWC) titles as he helped form one of the top pitching foursomes in school history along with Mike Capel, Kirk Killingsworth and Calvin Schiraldi.
- Hurled 35 consecutive scoreless innings during 1982 postseason competition as the Horns finished tied for third nationally. Also paced the 1982 Texas pitching staff in shutouts (4), complete games (8), innings pitched (108.2) and strikeouts (90).
- Helped the Longhorns capture the 1983 National Championship, which was the program's fourth national crown, while setting the school single-season record for team wins (66) and innings pitched (669.0).
- Pitched Texas to a 4-3 victory over Alabama in the 1983 national title game as he tossed a complete game and allowed only three earned runs on seven hits while walking none and striking out nine.
- Led the 1983 pitching staff in innings pitched (166) and strikeouts (151) while ranking among the nation's top 10 in victories (13).
- Holds the school's two-year career record for shutouts with six.
- First-round Draft Pick (19th overall) of the Boston Red Sox in 1983 after being drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1980 and the New York Mets (8th round) in 1981.
- Had his No. 21 retired at UT in 1993.
- Owner of a stellar Major League career in which he holds over 320 victories to go along with 4,300 strikeouts and includes stints with the Red Sox, Blue Jays, New York Yankees and Houston Astros. Has also pitched in five World Series to date and won two world titles.
