Williams again puts Softball on top of Tigers

AUSTIN, Texas -- For the second day in a row, Jacqueline Williams came through in the seventh inning to propel the top-ranked Texas softball team a victory over Missouri, 1-0.
With the victory, Texas (40-4, 7-1 Big 12) reached the 40-win plateau for the sixth time in the program's 10-year history. Just 44 games into the season, this marks the fastest UT has ever reached that mark.
Sunday's win was also the team's second-ever regular-season sweep of Missouri. UT also won both in-season meetings in 2002.
Missouri (18-17, 2-4 Big 12) lost its sixth game in a row with the sweep at the hands of Texas.
On Sunday, Williams stepped up with one out and a runner on second and laced a double to right center past the drawn-in Tiger outfield, plating pinch-runner MicKayla Padilla from second for the game-winning run. On Saturday, Williams roped a game-winning two-run home run to complete the Horns' come-from-behind victory over MU.
Cat Osterman (25-1) held the Tigers to just one hit, one day after they collected six hits off of her, the most of any opponents this season. She struck out 14 on Sunday, walking one, and retiring the final 11 batters. It was her fifth one-hitter of the season.
Megan Willis led off the seventh with a walk and was replaced by Padilla at first. After a Kacie Gaskin sacrifice bunt, Williams stepped in and was the hero for the Horns again.
Texas had the game's first scoring chance in the first when Desiree Williams led off with high chopper down the left line. The throw to first sailed over the bag, allowing her to go to second. She moved to third on Shannon Thomas' sacrifice bunt, but was stranded at the end of the inning.
Missouri had just two baserunners all afternoon, one of which was caught stealing second by Willis. No MU runner successfully advanced past first all afternoon.
Jen Bruck (16-12) took the loss in the circle, allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
The Longhorns return to action on Wednesday, April 12, when they host Texas State in their final non-conference game of the season. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at McCombs Field.
